Why I'm waiting:

The combination of a female homicide detective an angel pairing up to stop the apocalypse sounds like an exciting read! You know there's going to be some kick ass action and some steamy sex involved (keeping fingers crossed!). Maybe it's the Supernatural fan in me that gravitates towards this kind of book but I'll be making a trip to the bookstore for this one in September!

The Life and Times of Delila Blog Tour: Guest Post with Lindsay Klug

"Strong Story, Weak Heroine..."

Have you ever read a blurb on the back cover of a book or a website and chewed your lip in anticipation? Something like:

When Riley woke up, blood trickling down her nose and hands tied behind her, she hardly expected to look up and be greeted by the most handsome man she’d ever seen.

And when Max turns out to be a vampire assassin, he becomes even hotter. But as Riley quickly discovers, being the target of a man who can run faster, listen harder, and see in the dark will put all of her ninja skills to the test.

As a lover of both vampires and ninjas, this might be a story of interest to me. Alas, my hopes and dreams for this potentially amazing story are destined to be dashed when I read the first chapter and discover, much to my chagrin, that Riley is a whining failure.

Perhaps because I have two young children, I have a low tolerance for whiny, I-can’t-do-it types. Or maybe I can delve deeper here. When I read a story, I want to be whisked away into a fantasy world where the heroine is kicking ass and taking names. This is simply because I’m not allowed to in real life.

We’re encouraged to put ourselves into the character when we read a story. And let’s be frank here: Does anyone really want to be helpless? I don’t mean fainting and a muscle bound, square jawed, green eyed, shirtless with a sheen of light sweat gracing his bulging chest type of man catches us.

Who wouldn’t want that once in their life?

I mean, tied to a chair with ninja skills, like Riley. But utterly incompetent to use them. I’ve only read one book in which the heroine started out very strong, very kick ass. She went out and hunted those bad guy vampires and did it without breaking a nail. And then suddenly a bad guy broke into her apartment and she swooned and lost all her prowess.

Wait, what?

When I sat down to pen Delila’s tale, I had that book in mind. And I vowed not to make her weak. In fact, Delila wasn’t originally going to be a vampire. But about halfway through the story, I scrapped it and started over, bringing her in as the lead voice and vampire and telling the story of a small section of her life.

And I’d certainly not want to piss her off, that’s for sure.

My Romancing Thoughts:

A sexy and witty novella that will heat up your afternoon! 

Marigold is just an "ordinary" witch trying to create a potion to get rid of her much hated freckles when she receives a visit from a very sexy stranger named Mictain, who claims to be reaper for Satan himself. Mari is totally dumbfounded by the gorgeous man in her home and instead of fearing this man who has come to take her soul into the Underworld, she invites him over for dinner! The instant attraction is not at all one-sided, Mick also has the hots for the feisty witch and is willing to go against his duties and Lucifer's wrath to have her. 

This is a great novella for anyone that wants to add a little smut to their day or their reading. If there's one thing Eve Langlais does flawlessly it's hot and unbridled passion! To quote the ridiculous words of John Mayer, Marigold and Mictain are sexual napalm together! Marigold is a funny and ballsy heroine who will have you bursting at the seams with her snarky comments. Mictain will melt your heart and leave you drooling...I'd recommend keeping a towel handy while reading! An Aztec god, a witch with a powerful father and a devil with a sense of humor make this story an amusing adventure with a bit of mystery and a shocking revelation you won't see coming. Date with Death is a fresh take on paranormal romance, infused with mythology and plenty of heat guaranteed to satisfy!

My Romancing Thoughts:

An action packed story of love, redemption and betrayal!

As a vampire, Delila lives life, alongside her maker Alaric for centuries. Delila has everything: the looks, the brains and money, but it's her ability to tune into human emotions sets her apart from all other vampires. She's loved and lost and vowed to keep that vulnerable part of her buried deep within until she meets Eli, a werewolf that sparks an interest in Delila she thought long gone. There's a war brewing between the two species and Eli has pledged both his love his allegiance to Delila. Eli seems like a dream come true...but Delila will soon learn things aren't always as they seem.

Delila is one of the most well developed heroines I've read about in a while. The author does a magnificent job incorporating a very detailed past and defining Delila's character based on those past events, making her a survivor, not a victim. She knows who she is and doesn't apologize for it, her confidence and fighting skills make her a formidable opponent to anyone that crosses her path...and I for one wouldn't want to challenge her! Delila is very realistic and raw, she's not your typical romantic and brooding vampire which puts her in a class of her own. Her character will leave a lasting impression on readers.

This story gives the impression of a forbidden romance but quickly changes into an action packed battle of the supernatural. Each chapter takes an unexpected turn that will make it impossible for you to predict how the story ends. The happy ending I anticipated was transformed into something I would have never envisioned but thoroughly enjoyed all the same. Every character has his own agenda and will have you wondering who's side they're really on. The suspense is both aggravating and exciting!

The Life and Times of Delila tells a story of one of the best vampire heroines I've come across in this vast genre. You'll fall for Delila's charm, experience her love, betrayal and resurrection. As long as Lindsay keeps writing heroines like Delila I'll keep reading!

US vs. UK {4}: The Hollows Series

It's that time again: another US vs. UK challenge!

This week's feature series is one that I started reading for a book club and quickly fell in love with, The Hollows Series, also known as The Rachel Morgan Series by Kim Harrison. This series was my introduction to urban fantasy and Kim Harrison made me a fan of this great genre!

This might be my easiest choice to make so far in US vs. UK. US hands down! I love that the US covers keep Rachel's face a mystery and are true to her character's fashion sense and world of graveyards and danger. The UK covers remind me of the "Kill Bill" movies and are a little too colorful for the genre in my opinion. It seems they used a few different models for the UK version which is also a turnoff for me, although the last cover model does a good job in resembling Rachel Morgan's character. The mystery of the US covers just wins it for me this time around!
